Women’s Equality Day

26 Aug

Today is Women’s Equality Day. It marks the 88th anniversary of the day women finally won the right to vote in the U.S.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of watching Iron Jawed Angels- please rush out and rent it now. Below is a video clip portraying the brave women beginning their protest outside the White House. I can see several parallels between the struggle portrayed in this film and the struggle Hillary supporters have faced this primary season. Despite the mocking/derision of us and Hillary, we continue to stand with our Hillary signs in hand.

It’s a fight for the most qualified experienced woman to have a chance. We deserve that. 88 years after the 19th amendment ensuring the vote for women and we still do not have a woman in the White House. When a great candidate like Hillary rises to the challenge, how can she be denied the opportunity to go for it? How can women stand aside – how can anyone stand aside- and allow the travesty of a less qualified candidate to rig the caucus system and push her aside? Angelica Houston’s rant against the White House picketers at the very end of this clip reminds me of modern day Nancy Pelosi’s response to Hillary supporters.

If not her, who?

If not now, when?
