Obama Camp Attacks Joe the Plumber

16 Oct

The Obama campaign has done a pretty dumb thing- they’re attacking Joe the Plumber. Apparently, he’s too successful according to Obama and Biden.

Here’s what Obama said today about Joe the Plumber: “How many plumbers do you know makin’ a quarter million dollars a year?”

Well, actually, I have known quite a few successful plumbers.

Growing up, my father had a home improvement business. He often complained about the high cost of plumbers he used as sub-contractors. He’d complain, but he would also pay whatever it cost, because the service they provide is essential.

Whenever anyone asked for advice on a good profession to pursue, my Dad was fond of recommending electrician first and plumber second. His opinion was it’s great money, steady work, and near recession proof.

As someone who went white collar instead of blue, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought about my Dad’s recommendation as I’ve faced corporate mergers, restructurings, and layoffs.

Attacking the plumbers (and by that the larger group of working class voters Joe represents) seems like a big misstep sure to alienate the very group Obama wants to woo. I’m not the only one who thinks this is a colossal political mistake as well.

Here’s Joe Biden on Joe the Plumber:

FBI Confirms Investigation of ACORN

16 Oct

WASHINGTON (AP) – The FBI is investigating whether the community activist group ACORN helped foster voter registration fraud around the nation before the presidential election. A senior law enforcement official confirmed the investigation to The Associated Press on Thursday. A second senior law enforcement official says the FBI was looking at results of recent raids on ACORN offices in several states for any evidence of a coordinated national scam.

Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because regulatons forbid discussing ongoing investigations particularly so close to an election.

ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, says it has registered 1.3 million young people, minorities and poor and working-class voters—most of whom tend to be Democrats.

Obama’s 30 Minute Ad Will Delay Baseball Start

16 Oct

The Hollywood Reporter and the Los Angeles Times report that Major League Baseball today granted Fox’s request to delay the start of the game from 8:20 pm ET to 8:35 pm ET.

Fox will collect an estimated $1 million in ad revenue. CBS and NBC have also agreed to run the 30-minute campaign ad.

In September, in deference to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., NBC asked the National Football League if it could move up the game between the reigning Super Bowl champion New York Giants and the Washington Redskins from 8:30 pm ET to 7 pm ET.

NBC was contractually obligated to air the game until its very end, even thought it coincided with the last night of the Republican National Convention, and it wanted to make sure the game had concluded by the time McCain came to the podium to accept the Republican presidential nomination.

Nonetheless, RNC spokesman Alex Conant issued a statement assailing Obama for the move, saying, “It’s unfortunate that the World Series’ first pitch is being delayed for Obama’s political pitch. Not only is Obama putting politics before principle, he’s putting it before our national pastime.”

Lady Lynn discusses Democrats for McCain and Obama’s tax plan.

Lynn is a self made millionaire who built her own business fortune before marrying her second husband and picking up the ‘Lady’ title. She’s been a huge Hillary booster and we adore her for that. Vodpod videos no longer available.
