Obama Camp Attacks Joe the Plumber

16 Oct

The Obama campaign has done a pretty dumb thing- they’re attacking Joe the Plumber. Apparently, he’s too successful according to Obama and Biden.

Here’s what Obama said today about Joe the Plumber: “How many plumbers do you know makin’ a quarter million dollars a year?”

Well, actually, I have known quite a few successful plumbers.

Growing up, my father had a home improvement business. He often complained about the high cost of plumbers he used as sub-contractors. He’d complain, but he would also pay whatever it cost, because the service they provide is essential.

Whenever anyone asked for advice on a good profession to pursue, my Dad was fond of recommending electrician first and plumber second. His opinion was it’s great money, steady work, and near recession proof.

As someone who went white collar instead of blue, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought about my Dad’s recommendation as I’ve faced corporate mergers, restructurings, and layoffs.

Attacking the plumbers (and by that the larger group of working class voters Joe represents) seems like a big misstep sure to alienate the very group Obama wants to woo. I’m not the only one who thinks this is a colossal political mistake as well.

Here’s Joe Biden on Joe the Plumber:

A plumbing license is like having a license for highway robbery. No one likes to deal with the crap (sometimes real crap) they deal with, so they can charge astronomical fees for their services.

They earn it, people are willing to pay it, who is Obama to say it’s too much for a plumber to earn? He makes me so mad.

This whole thing is wrong on both sides, all for political gain.

he did not say plumbing was a bad profession or that plumbers are unsuccessful- he asked how many make over $250k. the answer- joe and his supervisor, neither one make over that amount. people can consider themselves successful heard not make over $250k. he was simply paraphrasing the earning potential of the plumbing industry. the point is this: obama’s policies will benefit plumbers. he likes plumbers. he wants to help plumbers. no one has disrespected plumbers.

Of Course you don’t see the media talking about this. They will spin it somehow to make O’bama look “more presidential”. Someone needs to call the media out for taking advantage of the voters who aren’t smart enough to do research on their own regarding campaigns and presidential candidates.

Obama’s policies would hurt small business owners the most.

It’s not going to hurt the uber-wealthy Bill Gates types. They have expensive accountants/lawyers who help their large corporations find loopholes to avoid paying all the high taxes.

The poor won’t be taxed. It’s the middle class who will hurt the most by Obama’s policies.

Why is it always the middle class who does the heavy lifting!?

Look, I still don’t understand what leads people who evince loyalty to Hillary to oppose Obama, but that’s up to you. However, your claim that Barack or Biden has “attacked” Joe the plumber in some way has about as much substance as McCain’s claim that he and his running mate have been attacked as segregationists.

The Obama camp has encouraged the media to go on the attack against Joe the Plumber. They’re encouraging it.

*Obama campaign flacks attacked McCain for failing to “vet” a guy who only became an issue because Obama showed up in his yard.

*Not only did reporters go after his licensing as a plumber, but now government officials are after his business.

*Lefty blogs publishing his home address and writing up attacks on him and digging into his family tree.

Biden says, “…98% of small businesses make less than $250,000…”

    That’s Bullsh*t.
